Sponsorships are being sought for local athletes heading to Cancun this March for the World Congress of Amateur Athletes 2010 Goodwill Games.
Last weekend’s Kata-thon had members collect pledges to help team members attend.
Jessica Verbakel is just one of those heading to Mexico, representing Canada.
The event is held once a year and the cost of competing and travel falls upon the competitor. This year that is estimated to be $1,800.
With competitors from around the world ranging from ages 6 to 18, and a few older competitors, it is expected to be a lifelong experience for the amateur athletes.
Team Canada, in partnership with the World Congress of Amateur Athletes, is committed to the everyday martial artist.
