One man was killed when a boat carrying him and six other family members capsized in a lagoon near this Caribbean resort, Mexican authorities said.The family was out on Laguna Manati on Monday – in an area known as Boca Paila, near Cancun – when the boat was hit by a large wave and capsized shortly before nightfall.
Some of the victims managed to make their way to a camp to alert the authorities, and a navy rescue unit, a Red Cross team and groups of fishermen subsequently began an intense search of the lagoon, which has an outlet to the sea.
Jose Luis Gutierrez, 18; Cesar Alexis Chable, 15; Jose Luis Gongora, 42, and Mario Guzman Chable, 30, were found the following day by fishermen; the others were discovered later in the sea.
