SCT to relaunch US$255mn Riviera Maya airport concession

Mexico's transport and communications ministry (SCT) is relaunching the concession tender for the Riviera Maya international airport in Quintana Roo state.

The new airport will cost some 3.2bn pesos (US$255mn), and will be the first entirely concessioned airport in Mexico, President Felipe Calderón said during a ceremony broadcast live from Tulum in Quintana Roo.

Bidding rules for the tender will be available from April 15, according to deputy transport minister Humberto Treviño Landois.

The new airport will occupy some 1,500ha located 130km south of Cancún airport, and is expected to handle 3mn passengers each year.
